For your consideration in the worst poetry category, I present William McGonagall, bard of Victorian Dundee, Scotland. His ode to the collapse of the Tay railway bridge may be the most inadvertently funny thing ever. In the non-fiction (memoir) category, I present James Gahan, self-published memoirist, also of Dundee , Scotland, who, in fairness, wrote tolerably well, but may have been the most boring wee man on the planet. Just like the laughter-loving Irish, we Scots have a soft spot for our bad writers.

Oh, I love this! Most Florid prize, indeed! I am so glad you quoted generously enough that I don’t have to spend precious hours seeing how far I can read in this charmer. You’re right about the passage so full of words that one could not make out the meaning. And I love this period. By gosh, she’s a plum! 😅
