I bought the book when it was published, about two years or so ago and found it... lovely.
It sits on a sea-trunk and when I'm in one of 'those' spaces, I pick it up and thumb through and in moments am lost in gentle thoughts and affirmations and seeing myself in the mole - cake and all. I've followed Mackesy since publication and he is a thoroughly kind and gentle person who seems only ever to think of his fellow man.
What a beautiful way to start my day! Lovely - I am ordering the book!! Your description reminds me a bit of the Farmer John books about Sweet Pea and Friends and Moonrise Farm.
Looks like a book worth checking out! I'm glad I never saw the movie of The Little Prince. I read that book so many times (even in a couple other languages) and loved it!
The book is a classic that may live on for generations. I received it years ago as a gift and have given many since then. Subsequently, I began to follow Charlie on IG and he seems as lovely there as one would expect.
I recently watched the movie and, while I prefer the book, I liked it. I think I liked it because I was suffering from a head cold and feeling lousy. I needed a hug and a snuggle blanket and that movie seemed like both. I loved the animation and the voices, I loved the boy's cute little face and I didn't care about much else. The whole thing Charlie Mackesy has created is, to me, a wonderful and uplifting
thing that our world needs right now.
Maybe I love it so much because I created a very similar story for my sons when they were young. A flying (friendly) green dragon named Stompy, an osprey named Ollie, a fox named Ferdie and a little yellow haired boy would go on adventures. So in a way, I felt I was watching part of my own story come to life.
Lovely(!) description of the experience. And you are so right that not everything need to turned into other versions.
I have Kindle Unlimited and couldn't resist. I look forward to cuddling up by the fireplace tonight and reading the book.
