Do I have regrets? Sure but at 84 it is too late to turn regrets into possibilities. I’m just happy to have done what I did in my life. So, I am a happy camper!
We're the same age, Pat, and I say it's never too late! I'll probably never sky-dive, but then I never would have, even when I was younger. But I've still got a bucket list. I've had to cross a few things off, but I've added a few things, too. I like the sound of 'possibilities'!
In my 70's and yes, quite a few regrets but I've been reading a lot about Buddhism lately and the tenet seems to be don't dwell on the past and don't dwell on the future. Just live in the moment.
I interpret that to mean that whatever moment I'm living in just let it happen - regretting not one minute.
Sounds a bit Utopian, doesn't it? Oh well, maybe we shouldn't overthink things...
'Live in the moment' does sound a bit Utopian, but it's often good mental health advice. On the other hand, reality bites, doesn't it? We often have to rely on what we know about the past in order to deal with the present--and to prepare for the future.
While 'live in the moment' is the kind of R&R we need now and then, it would be hard to choose as a lifestyle. Only the cloistered or those living on mountaintops could sustain it!
Do I have regrets? Yes! But those regrets are decisions and experiences that also made me who I am. I don't think it's wrong to admit that there are certain things we wish we had done differently. But it's also hard to imagine how our lives would be different if we had done things differently.
Like journalism. I should have taken journalism in high school. So I'm that teacher/mom who now is telling my writer daughter that when she gets to high school next year, she should take journalism classes 😂
I LOVE your title! :) And the photo, too. Where was it taken? I'll be seventy in a year. Even when I was young(er) I didn't like thinking about the past much, or the future. Especially the future. I guess I really am a live-in-the-moment person. I think it's a Sagittarius thing. Not many regrets or grudges held either. My life has gotten richer with age and I'm grateful for that.
Hi Barbara, the photo was taken one foggy morning right outside my door on Drummond Island. I just thought it would be fun to see how people deal with regret. It is funny that the older I get the less I dwell on regrets. It's kind of 'Oh, well, nothing I can do about it now...'.

It's really quite freeing!
I agree, Ramona! And the photo is breathtaking!
