Hear hear! I'm with you - just write, write, write, in between the bouts of grief...which may multiply exponentially if we all don't do our part.

It's such a crucial year. I'm panicking already and I know without a doubt I won't be able to function without jumping in. Still, there is more to life, and this blog, Writer Everlasting, is a big part of my life now. I want to keep both of them going. That's my goal.

Your writing has been a constant reminder to me that on the day after the election, I must not feel that I failed to do my part.

I agree that this 2024 election is absolutely critical and will be urging and nudging people to vote. We have similar paths in politics...while you were writing about scary Reagan, I was co-editor of "Watch on the Right" a monthly newsletter in the early 80's, part of the bi-partisan Iowa Freedom Foundation's work to expel the Christian right's invasion into Iowa to put Creationism books in Iowa schools and destroy public education. You will remember the Moral Majority Movement, headed by extremist conservatives out of D.C. Paul Weyrich was the leader of that dangerous and in many ways, effective movement. It did not end in the 1980s, but morphed as needed and is still in force today. And as per plan, education has been dumbed-down over the years, so that today's voters are illiterate about our government, voting, one's responsibility in a democracy...we are in trouble.

So, yes, we need to urge others to vote, and urge school boards to return Civics courses to our schools!!!

Oh, I do indeed remember every sickening facet of the Moral Majority, having been there as it was happening, howling in pain because so many were falling for it when it was so obviously evil personified.

The dumbing down of education goes right along with it. Remember that old taunt that the schools went down hill when they threw Jesus out? If only they had allowed prayer in school. Serves them right for being so godless. Crap like that.

And the gullible are still being led by a phony cross. Unbelievable.

So refreshing to actually see someone doing something they’re passion about instead of complaining and bashing “the other side.” Unfortunately, until we realize there is no other side, no red or blue, but a beautiful deep purple as one nation, we must continue to do what our hearts insist we do. Thank you, Ramona, for doing your part.

If only others were as compelled to avoid ignorance. Interesting, isn't it, how we don't often think about ignore and ignorance as being cut from the same cloth. Thank you, Mona, for your fervor. Bless your heart, in all the right ways.

I'm with you as well. My concern is that even if the Dems defeat Trump and his peeps soundly - will that be allowed to hold or will we have to go through another four years of what we are going through and all kinds of violence..

Whatever it takes, Ramona because despite that I live in Australia, having DT back in the Whitehouse would be extremely bad for us, our foreign policy and of course for the world.

I'm not a fan of right of centre government, I despise rightwing politics, but nor am I rabid left wing. I suppose I'm a left of centre environmentally directed socialist. I just want balance and compassion for the world and the needy.

But it concerns me that no matter what argument I might make in politics, I'm only ever speaking to the converted. Don't you feel that? I suspect that most of your readers are of your ilk, so how do you make an impression with fence-sitters and committed Republicans?

I'm so behind your strength and think you are owed such respect.

I'll get excited when Trump is actually made to pay. So far he hasn't paid more than a few thousand dollars.

I agree, he'll likely never pay, he'll just tie the courts up with his appeals. But hopefully with these lawsuits and verdicts more people will realize what a corrupt businessman he is and think twice about letting someone like that run our country again.

I've stocked up on postcards & stamps and plan to do a lot of 'Postcards to Voters.' I may volunteer to work the polls if they need people. I, too have to participate because what happens in November will determine if our democracy survives. Regardless of the outcome, I have to know that I tried my best.

For any of your readers that would like a historical refresher (I've learned quite a bit) on why America was brought to her knees, please read: Last Best Hope - America in Crisis & Renewal by George Packer. He is a staff writer for The Atlantic, author, and recipient of prestigious writing awards. It's a must-read.

For any readers who could use guidance on how to talk to family, friends, etc. about the issues, Trumpism, MAGA, etc. they should check out Dan Pfeiffer's substack - Message Box. Dan is co-host of Pod Save America and was formerly an advisor to President Obama.

Thank you for your efforts and for all the information! There are so many good sources out there that don't get enough play. I'll try to remember to promote more of them, as you've been doing. We're a community. We're all in this together. ❤️

I am looking forward to reading your thoughts and feelings on anything that pops into your head. I too have a long history of writing. Mostly business or marketing related but you’d always find my voice.

This is the year of my great panic and trying to stop the world from all the fires that pop up.

I guess being a child of the 60s means I’ve seen a lot of politically ugly things but this feels like the Moral Majority and John Birch Society have joined forces under the MAGA umbrella.

You’ll be seeing my comments regularly. My son agrees it’s good to have such a supportive outlet.
