Once again, a piece of beauty. I think of all the people with their selfie sticks trying to capture a moment, instead of just "being there," soaking it all in for the Brain - that marvelous organ - to remember whenever they want, colored by the sounds, smells, and sights of actually looking and feeling. I read Cosmos last year, and I found myself rereading many passages, as the words played music inside me (whoa, I like that phrase - who knows where it came from...)...but I digress. After hearing so much about Mary Oliver (and Stephen Fry insisting poetry needed to be read aloud), I fell entranced with her descriptions and started looking at poetry in a whole new way. I have noticed as I read more and more, that I find the sense of endearment in the words - I had to wait till I was 70 to really learn how to read, but oh, what wonderment! Thank you!!

And this is why I still primarily read fantasy literature. I need to believe there is magic peeking at me from behind every leaf and tree as I stumble through my mundane life.

Absolutely gorgeous. The selections you chose were perfect. I find that I am my best self when I pause and let the beauty of the dunes and the lake and the giant pines soften me and wrap me in peace. Thomas Moore said that the only hope of saving our world is to connect to its soul and love it. Intellectual understanding, no matter how compelling, will never do it. Loved this piece. Edy

Oh, how I enjoyed this piece. I love the excerpts you pulled from, and just the general idea of noticing and finding joy and beauty in the ordinary. 💕
