Wherein I Ask ChatGPT What Kind of Writer I Am
I'll keep the compliments and ignore the mistakes while lamenting the fact that it couldn't find any of my pieces.
So this morning I was fooling around at my laptop, sipping my first cup of coffee, when I saw something about ChatGPT and decided it was time to have a look for myself. I clicked on the link and presto! I was right in there where I could ask it a question lickety split.
I hesitated for only a second, the question forming in my mind. This is how it went:
Well, no, Chat, I’m not known for my focus on contemporary fiction. Ha! You got that wrong! I stewed over that for a while, and then I saw that I could correct it.
Well, of course I said ‘yes’. I would like to know more about my work.
Again, I said ‘yes’.
Wait, what?? What do you mean, you can’t access my articles? Ever heard of Google?
My conclusion: Chat GPT has barely even heard of me. All it wants to do is keep me happy. It’s a nice chatbot that worries about hurt feelings and avoids that at all cost. It knows somehow that if I come on there asking about myself, I have a bit of an ego. Its job is to sooth it. And it did for a while. I basked in all of that info. Even I would want to read me!
But then who knows me better than I do? Nobody. Not even a SmartBot. I know a suckup when I see one. (I know nothing about tax policies. Nothing.) I’ll bet it even has nice things to say about Trump. (I’m not going to look. Don’t even ask.)
But I can’t be the only one who thought to ask this amazing but obviously flawed chatbot the same question. If you’ve Googled yourself, you’re the perfect candidate for something like this. Go ahead. Do it. Then come back here and tell us what you found. Let’s have some fun with it. 😉
UPDATE: Following Michael Jensen’s lead (see comments below) I asked the question in the way he did. This is the answer I received. (When I said I would like to see some of my work I got the same answer as before: No access!)

Oh gosh, my time's too precious. AI is a threat to everything creatives hold dear, IMO.
What a fun post, Ramona. Thanks!
