My Piece on Gender Bias at Constant Commoner
Writers and readers, please share. Because this is what I do.
Hello, Everlastings, I’m doing something different today. I’m sharing the link to a piece I wrote over at my other Substack, Constant Commoner. I’m doing it because while it’s about gender bias it’s also about writing. Mainly, the frustration of writing something important (to me) that might not ever be seen.
This is a topic so much a part of me I’m going to risk sharing it here, hoping you’ll see a need to share it, too, because tomorrow is the anniversary of the end of Roe v Wade, and I’m shattered by what this year has brought.
If you’re offended by this in any way, you’re probably in the wrong place. Feel free to say goodbye. If all of this means nothing to you, it’s probably best not to tell me. I’m not sure I could handle that right now. But if you’re as enraged and disappointed as I am, I’m begging you to share this and any other pieces on gender inequality that speak to you. Millions of our voices need to be heard. We need to be so loud nobody will ever ignore us or dismiss us again.
I should note that less than a quarter of my Constant Commoner subscribers subscribe to the section called Politics and Advocacy so whenever I publish pieces like this I get very little response. I don’t know what my readers expect of me, but it’s clear the majority don’t want me to get political or to advocate. I tell them in my “About Me” page that this is who I am, so they shouldn’t be surprised, but every time I do something like this over there I lose subscribers.
Honestly, I hope it’s different here. I feel these things and I write about them but I want to be in the right place, so if you have any ideas about where else I should go with pieces like this, please let me know. I’m open to any suggestions.
We have to do and do and do and do...and not quit...ever. No wonder we are so tired. At our ages we don't have much time left to be as active as we want or need to be. But the political fatigue is real... and all we can really hope is that there are new generations behind us that are taking up the banners - and lots and lots of new "in your face" signs - using words we couldn't years ago because they weren't lady-like. Well, fuck "em.
Stay true to who you are as a writer. Those who value that will find you. I did!
